Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:. . .Rom 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Church is a place to go on a Sunday morning for many people. But many of those people have forgotten, if they ever knew, the purpose of the gathering.

A dog can wander in to a church service and quietly lie down and leave with all the people at the end of the service. When the dog gets outside it returns to the life of a dog. The time of worship and teaching had no affect on the dog. Many people attend church, praising God with their mouths and making confessions with their lips. But when the service is over and they leave the building returning to their lives in the world. The worship, praise and teaching had little if any affect on their life.

These people live in the world rather than “in Christ.” People live life in accordance to what they believe, accept as being true. We live in either the world or in Christ. These are the only choices available. While living in the world offers many options, mostly sinful (Matt 7:13; Rom 3:23). The reverential awe of God is not in their hearts (Rom 3:9-18). There is a love and devotion to the world rather than to God (Deut 6:5; Matt 22:27).

The teaching from the pulpit must touch, affect the conscience, the spirit, the heart, which confronts the ways of the world leading to a choice then affecting their life in the world—their being in the world yet not of the world. The teaching from the pulpit must confront the evil in its surrounding culture (Matt 11:12; Luke 12:51). A life “in Christ” is to follow Him (Matt 16:24; Matt 11:28-30)(Lev 19:2 holiness; Rom 12:1-2 transformed; 2Cor 5:17 a new creature). To follow Christ is to let me be Him in the world today (Gal 5:22-25).

1Cor 16:13  Watchstand fast in the faith, be bravebe strong. 14 Let all that you do  be done with love (how we live).
